NERPM 3D Printing clinic 06/02/2018

I presented my first 3D printing clinic at NERPM, the England RPM, in 2018. At the time I had designed three models using Sketchup for printing at Shapeways. I’ve included the PowerPoint slides from the clinic embedded below.

My wife, Melanie, filmed some video of my 3D printing clinic which I’ve also embedded below. She could only record clips for ten minutes so there are some small breaks in the video.

Ironically I attended another clinic before mine that described using the Formlabs Form 2 SLA resin printer for printing model railroad parts. I had never heard of SLA resin printing before. I was intrigued by the technology but was put off by the price of close to $3000 for the printer.

In 2021 prices for hobbyist grade 3D resin printers had dropped enough that I could purchase an Elegoo Saturn resin printer for about $500. I never regretted the purchase although it took some time to learn enough about resin printers to get consistent results.
