Print Failure
Last Friday I was attempting to print a pair of S1 narrow shutters, an S1 low profile cab, and an S2 low profile cab using my Elegoo Saturn resin printer.
The pair of narrow shutters printed fine, but one of the cabs had some deep lines in the print parallel to the build plate.
The other cab failed to print. Most of the roof, the back and one of the sides fell off the supports into the resin vat.
After a failed print I drain the resin vat and filter the resin through a fine screen in the filter into a resin bottle so it can be reused.
At the bottom of the resin vat I saw the parts of the cab that fell off the supports stuck to the FEP. I also noticed patches of thin hardened resin were stuck to the FEP in various spots.
I never had a print fail in this way before. Thinking that the FEP could not be cleaned, I replaced it with a new one. Luckily I had one replacement FEP sheet left.
UV LED array always on
After replacing the FEP I went to re-level the build plate before filling the resin vat. When I powered the printer on I noticed the UV LEDs lit up. It didn’t look right. I tried powering the printer off and on again. The LEDs went on again. I tried contacting Elegoo support, but it was already Saturday in China so I didn’t receive a response.
I searched for any other users that had this problem. One user determined the problem was caused by a failed MOSFET transistor on the motherboard. Another user said he had the same problem and Elegoo sent him a new motherboard.
I purchased my printer in June 2021. It’s out of warranty so the manufacture may not send me a free replacement motherboard. I was able to contact Elegoo via chat tonight after 9AM their time. I was told that my issue was forwarded to the proper department and I’d receive a reply via email within 24 hours. We’ll see what happens.
